Where Have All the George Washingtons Gone?

The media offer presidents great opportunities to get the message out. But the media also suck the mystery and aura out of the presidency. It’s hard to imagine now, as presidential historian Michael Beschloss reminds us, but when JFK addressed the country during the Cuban missile crisis, the networks went back to normal programming. That meant there was no media mediation, no talking-head commentary interposing itself between the public and the president. Americans were left to come to terms with the president and his words, by themselves.

With the media bombardment 24/7 over TV, Social Media and Internet, what aura can there be left?

Interesting facts on US National Debt since World War 2

While many has attributed to Ronald Reagan’s mantra of “small government”, the fact is the current ballooning National Debt started from his administration. The Debt/GDP ratio after World War 2 was 117.5% and was gradually brought down to 32.5% during Jimmy Carter’s administration. After Reagan took over, the Debt/GDP ratio has gradually shot up to the current estimate of 102%.

It’s important to note that during Clinton’s administration the Debt/GDP ratio was brought down a little; His first term at -0.7% and his second term at -9%, only to be increased by George W. Bush to a whopping 27.1% and Obama’s estimation of 18.6%.

Some of the questions I posted to the PM, what is yours? #tanyanajib

Recently our Prime Minister opened a flood gate when he asked the populace to post him direct questions on Facebook and Twitter and it created an immediate buzz by making it to the trending topic list. Too bad that he only allowed the questions to be posted from 4:30pm to 5:30pm which he later extended it to 6:00pm.

I can’t help but to contribute some very important questions to him which in my opinion is in the mind of many concern Malaysians.

#tanyanajib if Malaysia's education system is so good why most ministers kids including yours attend international school

#tanyanajib how do u propose Malaysian achieving high income nation when most can't even afford basic necessities w price increases

#tanyanajib why the PM dept needs more than 40K staff when US whitehouse only requires around 6K

There are many good questions out there being tweeted with some not so useful and some very satirical and I do hope the Prime Minister will take his time to answer all those tough but valid questions if he sincerely wants to improve things here at home.

And finally one satirical tweet about him just for the sake of a good laugh.

waiting for feedback after #tanyanajib ? Not so soon, he got to #tanyarosmah first

The concept of Government

Whether
Conservative, Liberal or Labour , I think you’ll get a kick out of this!

A little boy goes to his
dad and asks, ‘What is Politics?’

Dad says, ‘Well son, let
me try to explain it this way:

I am the head of the
family, so call me The Prime Minister.

Your mother is the
administrator of the money, so we call her the Government

We are here to take care
of your needs, so we will call you the People.

The nanny, we will
consider her the Working Class.

And your baby brother,
we will call him the Future.

Now think about that and
see if it makes sense.’

So the little boy goes
off to bed thinking about what Dad has said.

Later that night, he
hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him.

He finds that the baby
has severely soiled his nappy.

So the little boy goes
to his parent’s room and finds his mother asleep.

Not wanting to wake her,
he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny..

He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the
little boy say’s to his father, ‘Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now. ‘

The father says, ‘Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all
about.’

The little boy replies, ‘The Prime Minister is screwing the Working Class while the
Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and
the Future is in deep shit.’
